Question:
Anyone has had Dr Liu from UCLA, and the lap RNY?
I am wondering if he has you wake up postop with no nose tube and no drain tube, and also what about the postop xray leak test, must I do that (with him as my surgeon?) Any oher comments about a recent surgery with Dr Liu, and also anyone who has had the RNY done in the WLAVAMC in Los Angeles/ How was the care, and tell me about the preop day before surgery admitted there. Thanks. — Jack B. (posted on May 6, 2002)

I just had Lap RNY on 4/9 with Dr. Liu. He is a wonderful surgeon. I did
not wake up with a nose tube other than Oxygen. I did have those leg
compression things on but I must be a strange person I actually liked them.
They felt like a message! The nurses took them off the next day after I
got up and started walking. I did not have the X-Ray leak test. The staff
at Santa Monica was wonderful! If you get a Nurses' aide named Marian from
Belize consider yourself lucky. She's wonderful. Dr. Liu and his
residents were great they came by everyday to check on my progress.
Tomorrow will be exactly 4 weeks since surgery and I have lost a total of
33 pounds. Good luck!
