Question:
How long does the actual operation procedure takes?

With my doctor it took just a hair over one hour...RNY. My wife and I had it done the same day. As I was heading in to the operating room, she was on her way out...an hour after they started. I know there are other procedures that take longer and other doctors who may take longer with the RNY procedure so here's a starting number for you! Good Luck!

I was told 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on whther or not your docotr removes your gall bladder or encounters any obstacles. Mine took 1.5 hours.

It depends on your surgeon and your anatomy. My surgeon said he does the surgery in 2 1/2 to 4 hours on average. My surgery took 4 1/2 hours due to adhesions he had to deal with and odd connective tissue between the stomach and colon. He had to work around some things that he had not really worked with before. It's all very individual.

I had open RNY and hiatal hernia repair on 4/5/02 and it took about 3 1/2 hours.

My lap RNY took 1 hr. 10 min. and I had some major adhesions (scar tissue) from a previous gallbladder surgery. Three other members of my family have also had lap RNY and their surgeries each lasted 1 hour.
