Question:
What am I doing wrong?
After each meal, I feel gas building up and I burp for about 15 mins after each meal. Am I doing something wrong? I am eating slow and I am currently on a puree/soft diet from my doctor. I am also chewing my food very very well. — Diane Rhoads (posted on March 6, 2002)

Hi! How far out are you? You may be swallowing a lot of air without
realizing it. Do you use a straw? I had problems feeling like the food
was sitting on top of an air bubble. I've heard to drink a little warm
liquid before you eat to dislodge the gas. Good luck! It does go away.

Hi Diane! A friend of mine had surgery 5 wks ago and up to wk. 3 had this.
It was from gulping air when she swallowed. Dr. told her to use a straw
for sipping but not gulps...it went away. GasX also helped. You're doing
great!

I am one week post op.. forgot to put that in the orginal question. And I
only get all this air and burping when I eat soft foods, not so much as
when I am having soup or such.. ( i dont think. LOL)

Hold on, the burping will subside. I did the same thing too. It just went
away without me even noticing. lol I just said "excuse me" a
lot.

I burp Alot if I eat too fast. I however do burp at every meal. It is my
indicator to slow down. sometimes the burping will give way to
nauseuosness, so it is a delicate balancing act with certain foods.
sometimes even if I eat slow, and it is something that normally settles
good I will burp loud, and long for about 20 minutes after eating.
I don't think there is a really good explanation for this other than it is
normal.
