Question:
I would like some advice regarding United Healthcare options in Texas!
The company my husband works for is being bought out by B.D. Holt of South Texas and the new company has given the two choices of United Healthcare. The first is UHC - PPO and the second is UHC - HMO Choice. I have been told that the PPO programs of any insurance company is the best, it pays the best. I would like to know which option I should choose. At this point I'm leaning toward the PPO. Than you for any advice. — Brenda Kay U. (posted on March 4, 2002)

I have United Healthcare POS and they approved my surgery without a
problem. I don't know how they compare to the PPO or the HMO, however.
Have you checked out the Insurer page yet? It lists all kinds of insurance
types. That might be helpful. Good luck!

I have United Healthcare Choice Plus PPO and my entire surgery and
aftercare has cost me $10. I'd go with that one. HMOs have the problem of
very restrictive networks. I also can go to any specialist in network
without seeing a primary care physician first and do not have to have a
designated PCP. That means I am in charge of my own healthcare and not at
the mercy of a PCP I may or may not agree with.

I have United Healthcare PPO and they approved me in 2 short days. I love
them! I prefer a PPO over an HMO because I don't need referrals from my
PCP to see whomever I may want to see. That was one battle I didn't have
to fight. Best wishes to you on your journey!
