Question:
Will I be the same weight I was when I was younger.
Unlike some who have been MO all their lives my weight gain was after children. My question is can I expect to get to the weight I was when I was younger I was always a little chubby usually 10-15 overweight. I'm wondering with the surgery if genetics play the role or will hard work pay off and get me to a normal weight. Sorry if this sounds vain just one of the crazy thoughts that go through your mind on this journey. — Barb R. (posted on December 29, 2001)

Good question. One which I would like to know also. I weighed 123 most of
my high school years. I never gained weight until I was 20. I expect I'll
never weigh 123 again but I sure hope for 129 which would be a good BMI for
my short height.

I am still waiting to get approval for WLS, but this is a question that
I've asked each time I'd gone on a "regular" diet before. I would
love to weight 136 pounds again, as I did in High School, but it occurred
to me - I had to starve and exercise for hours every day to keep at that
weight. Also, if you have had any children, that will affect how you would
look if you did get to that early weight. First, I'd like to congratulate
you for having the courage to pursue weight loss this way. All of you who
have made it to the other side are heroes in my book! I know life has not
been easy to bring us to this point. Barb, I also know that regardless of
how much or how little I've weighed, there was always someone (including
myself) who would think that what I'd accomplished just wasn't enough.
Though I don't have the answer, I encourage you to applaud each pound you
lose, relish that victory, and lose until you get to a weight that you can
maintain comfortably. I have also seen many people who may not weigh as
little as they did in high school, but because they have a healthy exercise
regimen they actually look better and thinner! Good luck and God bless you.
You are already well on your way!

None of us know that. Even if you do get down to the same
weight as you were when you were younger, it may be distributed
differently. I would say that you WILL LOOK younger after
the surgery and you start losing weight. Look at some of the
pictures on the site ... have of them don't even look the
same as they started out. Lots of weight makes us look and
feel older. Don't worry about what the scales say ... go
by how you feel, how your clothes look, etc. Good luck!

I, like you, was only "chubby" growing up. In high school, I
weighed about 130-135 and wore a size 12-14.(the sad part is I thought back
then that I was fat!) I became MO after having children. I am happy to
report that after 11 1/2 months, I am now at 123 and a size 6!! I am
actually smaller than when I was in HS or first married. I find this really
amazing and hard to get used to. I thought that I would end up about a size
12, but am really into a size 6. So, yes, you can get back to the weight
you were, or even less! Hope this is "hope"ful! Shelley

I was FAT my entire life, by age 4 I looked like ALL my relatives..... Very
fat:( I weighed about 200 between 9th and 10th grade, and around 240 when I
graduated from high school. At last weigh in I was 206 which is incredible.
I am not a perfect post op, make occasional bad food choices, struggle to
stay away from chocolate espically when under stress. But surgery really
worked for me, see my profile.
