Question:
Why am I not losing?
I had surgery 4-9-01 and have lost 67lbs. For the past 6 weeks I have only lost 3lbs. I am getting so depressed and fustrated that I haven't lost anymore. I don't know what to do. I'm not overeating. I don't exercise that much, but I have read where people never exercise and still loose. Can someone give some tips on what they try. Thanks, Pat — Patricia C. (posted on November 6, 2001)

patricia first off congrats on your loss....now you basically answered your
own question...you are not excercising ....thats probably why the loss
slowed up as your doctor probably told you the first six months is when we
loss the fastest and after that you have to work out and watch what you eat
to keep the loss steady .....try walking 15 to 20 minutes a day....when you
start sweating you know you are doing good...excercise is the key
now....good luck to you .....

Keep a food diary for a couple weeks, write down EVERYTHING you put in your
mouth. See your nutronist with the diary to make certain you dont have any
food issues. Things like drinking a lot of juice can stall your loss.

Pat, doesn't it SUCK that some people can get to goal without exercising?
I'm one of those people for whom that doesn't work. I must exercise. In
exchange for having to exercise, I don't dump. That's my consolation
prize. It isn't easy for me and it sounds like it isn't easy for you
either. Get up, exercise 20 mins a day til you sweat, drink 64oz of water,
get 60 grams of protein and watch the weight start to come off. And once
you develop that exercise routine and get to your goal -- watch that weight
STAY OFF. Good luck and God Bless!

You are averaging 10 pounds, that's not so bad, especially if your
starting weight was in the low to mid 200's. My advice is to record
everything you eat and drink and the times for a period of three days.
I'm almost certain that you'll see "problem areas" that are
keeping you
from losing faster. We all have to do this from time to time....no one is
perfect. I was one who lost well over 100 pounds without exersizing at
all.
But, most people have to do some exersizing to get good results and some
people
(perhaps you) have to exersize a lot. That's just the way it is. So, join
a gym,
or buy a treadmill. Just don't give up.

Oh boy do I know how you feel! I had surgery 5-15-01 and I have lost 64
pounds (I started at 281) but over the last 6 weeks I have gained and lost
the same 4 pounds (yes I said Gained). But my problem is worse than your
because I do exercize I actually walk 2.1 miles everyday and last week I
added Richard Simmons in on top of that. I drink my 64 ounces of water and
take in 60g of protein via shakes. So see it could be worse you could be
doing everything right and still not losing. I do suggest you start some
form of exercize but also I think you might need to talk to your surgeon. I
saw mine today and am going for an upper gi on Thursday. So if everything
is still intact and working like it is supposed to I guess my next option
is therapy. So good Luck to you. Just remeber your not alone. Love your
Guts!
