Question:
Has anyone lost 100 lbs and not gone down in sizes?
I have lost over 100 pounds the last 3 months and still wear the same size clothes. Some things are getting entirely "unfitting" (ie. my dress shoulders slide to show my bra strap) but when I went to get sweaters and tried the 22/24 it was still a little too tight. I'm still a 26/28. I can really tell I've lost the weight, and so do the people around me. But still the same size. Any ideas? Anyone else have this dilemma? Thanks. — Tracy L. Hey Tracy. I feel your frustration. I have lost 70 and I realized that I
can still wear a 26/28 in some clothing (mainly Lane Bryant). But in dress
pants, I can wear my mom's size 22s. And some jeans I can wear a 24. I
was frustrated cause others (yes I'm comparing :-) are losing sizes left
and right. Have you done any measurements? If not, now is a good time to
start. If you can believe it, most of my inches are coming off in the
breast and wrist and neck. All areas where there won't be a big difference
in size just yet. I'll be patient if you can be. :-) Good luck and God
Bless!

It's possible depending upon which parts of the body hold onto the fat and
inches. It also depends how the size was fitting you pre op. If your were
using a hanger and turning blue to wear a size 28 jean, then it's possible
that you are now in a loose 28. For instance, I always wore a 38B. I
sucked everything in that size. I was NO 38. I was more like a 44.
Today, at 138 pounds, I am a 36... Did I just lose 2 inches? I think not.
Way to go on the weight loss!

All I cab say is that losing 100lbs. took from a size 28/30 all
the way down to an 18/20. My guess is that those 22/24 sweaters
weren't really "too tight". You are losing weight so quickly
that
emotionally you can't keep up. Go shopping and take a girlfriend
along with you. Let her judge what size looks best on you. But, don't
start at the higher sizes....start at the lower size. Try on a size
20 sweater and if that seems tight try a 22. Let your friend do the
judging. My guess is you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Congrats on the weight loss...WOW in 3 months 100 lbs how did you do that?
Any tips? (lol) Well every store size runs differently like Walmart/Target
stores are all smaller fitting clothing while Lane Bryant and the Avenue
are all a larger cut usually with fuller hips. I suppose you are not used
to your new and improved shape because of the rapid loss but I am sure you
are at least a 22 if not smaller. Good luck and happy shopping....Oh one
more thing I am just wondering if maybe you have alot of excess skin in
certain areas like the belly or arms which would allow you not to move in
sizes...Keep me posted...Melissa

No way!! It's unimaginable that you haven't went down a few sizes. I think
it depends on what you were trying on. I know that experience had to be
frustrating. I carry all my weight in my butt, hips, legs and stomach. I
have lost around 43 pounds and have went down at least a size and almost
another. Could it have been you were wearing your sweaters too tight before
and now they are loose? 100 pounds is fantastic - and in 3 months too!! I
know your feelings are alittle bruised right now, but try again at a
different store. Damn stores - they can't make up their minds what they
want the sizes to be can they?

Tracy, I am 5'4" and presently weigh 300 pounds. My surgery date is
11/8/01. I've been in a size 26/28 since I was 240 pounds. I always wear
my tops loose fitting and pick styles that are long to cover up my butt and
hips. Lately, though, I think I could almost use a 30/32. I have always
shopped at Lane Bryant, Avenue and Catherine's. I am sure you look as if
you've lost 100 pounds. Possibly, you weren't wearing the proper size in
the first place. Sometimes we ask our clothes to perform miracles. Keep
up the good work. Don't think of the numbers....just think of how you
FEEL. I'll be on the other side before long. Good luck and God Bless.

Personally for me, I still prefer my shirts and tops in the 1X and 2X size-
it's what looks best on me and more importantly- it's comfortable!!! If
you look at my picture- I am wearing a stretchy shirt from Ross that is
probably a 2X.
I have never been one of those kinds of people who would wear anything that
would show a roll in the first place. I would rather my clothes be loose,
than to emphasize any body part- flab to me is unattractive period- no
matter what size you are (14 or 32). You could be a 14yr old girl who can
squeeze into a size 10 who therefore THINKS she can safely wear hip huggers
and a crop top, and I am sorry- but if you are flabby/have rolls- it still
doesn't look GOOD!!!
Besides that, they fit me better- even though I wear a 14/16 pant- my upper
half is still "beefy" in my eyes. I guess I have always despised
ANY super tight tops- a women's XL- although I can fit into them- they make
me feel self concious of a possible stomach bulge- therefore I avoid. I
still own sweaters, shirts etc. in my pre-surgery size. I still like
wearing them.
Size is all relative, not any of the size charts are the same. Some days I
can find a 3X that fits like a 1X- so please don't beat yourself up.

Hi, well first of all do not feel bad. My mom has worked in management for
womens retail for many years, and she will be the first one to tell anyone,
that a lot of maufacturers for clothing don't cut anything to an exact
size. I have bought 16's that were to big, but went to Walmart and a size
20 was tight, that could be a real let down. I'm not sure where you shop,
but if you are shopping at Walmart, Target, Kmart, Burlington Coat Factory,
Lane Bryant or any other retail store such as these, the size you can fit
into will vary greatly. For a true fit, get measured, or go to a very high
end retail store like Nordstroms, Foleys, Robinson May, or Macy's, and you
will more then likely know what size you are REALLY wearing. Sad but only
the well off get correctly cut clothing, but us regular incomed people have
to guess, sad but very very true.

Hi Tracy! I had the very same problem. I had RNY open surgery on 1/8/01,
by the time I had lost 75 lbs (7 mos)I was still wearing 18/20 (Lane
Bryant). I knew I was losing weight and things were looser but I couldn't
get into the smaller clothes. Then, all of a sudden ...poof...my body
seemed to change just over night. Now I've lost 90 lbs. (9 mos) and can
get comfortably in a 14/16 (still Lane Bryant) and a size smaller bra. I
was SO excited. 100 lbs is GREAT...it has taken me 9 mos. to lose 90. I'm
sure your body just has not caught up yet...it will. You know the old
saying? A watched pot never boils. You've done great, keep up the great
work and please do not get discouraged.

Tracy, I'm just shy of a 100 pound loss now myself and I can't say that
I've gone "down" any clothing sizes, either. However, I have
always liked my clothes to be big--so the fact that most of them are looser
now is terrific. I'll probably keep wearing these sizes until they fall
off my body! = > Remember what everyone says about don't get caught up
concerning what number the scale says? Well, to me clothing sizes are the
same. They're just numbers; if the clothes look good on you and you like
them, who cares what "size" they are! By the way, congratulations
on your weight loss!

I want to thank everyone so much for the great answers on this question. I
really don't feel that it is in my head...as a button down 22/24 was
bursting at the seams (lol), so that's not my problem. I just must be
losing everywhere where it doesn't show in sizes (ie. big toe, wrist,
nose...lol). But it's nice to know that some people are there with me too.
I know sooner or later I'll see a change....I just hope it's sooner. I'm
not fixated on a number, it's just that my 26/28 are too big and the 22/24
is too small. Maybe there is a 25 out there for me somewhere. Hehe.
Thanks again all! Take care.
