Question:
How much fat will cause dumping? Also, will we dump for the rest of our lives?

My mom had the RNY 16 years ago. She still dumps-- nausea, vomiting, cold
sweats, you name it, when she eats high fat food or sugar. That's one of
the big reasons I had the duodenal switch--no dumping--ever.

Everyone is different. I am only 8 months post-op and hardly ever dump
anymore. I can eat fatty foods and sugar, not that I am proud of that, I
was kind of hoping I might dump forever.
But again-Everyone is different......

Not everyone dumps from fat. I don't - at least I haven't in 13 months
anyway. From what I understand if something causes dumping it will most
likely bother you in the future, although who would want to test it and
find out?

Everyone is differnt about dumping. I have never dumped and am over 2
months post op. The most I get is a bit warm on sweets. You should realize
that even dumpers can eat anything, in small quanties, and eaten slowly. I
tried twice to dump on rich ice cream to find out what it was like, so I
would know in case it accidently occured in the future. No success with
that. I kinda wish I did dump. It would always be there when tempted t eat
something I shouldnt. Even my warm feeling has nearly gone away. I had a
few bites onf my wifes dairy queen blizzard last night.Although I generally
avoid such foods.

I am 16 mos out and I continue to dump when I eat fatty foods or sugar. I
hope it continues for the rest of my life, because as I get farther out
from my surgery I find myself going back to some old, unhealthy, habits,
and need the "cop"(as michelle curan referred to this as)to help
keep me in line.
