Question:
Does anyone have BMs greatly larger than food intake?

I've have eaten next to nothing for the last two weeks due to a virus. I'm just starting to eat again...mostly soup and fruit. Yet, after about four days with no BMs, I'm now going two to three times a day in great quantities. Way more than what I eat. I'm wondering if this could be systematic of some kind of previous obstruction or the like. Happen to anyone else?    — [Anonymous] (posted on October 2, 2001)

Yes, this happens to me a couple of times a week. Also sometimes my bm's are so smelly that it's incredibly embarrassing using the public bathrooms.

Man, am I glad to hear I'm not the only one. I was too embarrassed to ask this question. I had the DS 4 weeks ago and I've also noticed I'm pooping way more than I'm consuming every day. What's up with that?! Where's it coming from and what is it? Could it be the waste our bodies are creating from burning fat for fuel? That was my thought on it but I sure would like to hear some more on this phenomenon.

OK, this is one of those big issues for me--get over the embarrassment and ask your doctor. Tell him/her that your are embarrassed but must ask. The doctor has been inside you--you think s/he doesn't know your closest, darkest secrets? Please remember these professionals are there to help and once you leave the room they really aren't joking about you at the water cooler. They aren't mind readers, they can't help if you don't talk. Now, having gotten that off my chest, the answer is: you pass the fat you are losing through bowel movements, so it is possible the 'output' seems larger than the 'input'. Also its good news that what you are eating is moving through you more completely than prior to the surgery, so you are gettting rid of it more obviously. Think of it this way--whats in the bowl isn't on your hips:-)
