Question:
I was wondering how it feels to have your staples removed.

It seems like it might hurt. I had my surgery on July 26th and am getting the staples removed on Aug. 6th. My incision is still kind of tender. How will he make the experience comfortable for me if I am still sore? Help, I'm nervous.    — Melissa R. (posted on August 4, 2001)

doesn't hurt at all..you might feel a little pinch every now and then but it really isn't painful at all

I too was very tender at my incision. To me getting my staples felt like little bee stings. It didn't hurt and believe me I'm a BIG baby! I cry when I get shots!!! Don't worry about it. You will be fine. If I can get through it then anybody can get through it! Aloha!

It's amazing. It LOOKS gruesome... even Frankenstein-esque. But it doesn't hurt. (I'm not just saying this to lessen your anxiety either!) I had a row of staples after my C-section about the same length as the WLS one will be. In fact, if anything, it kinda itches as they're being taken out. Of all your worries, don't waste 2 seconds on this one... Worry about how you're going to turn down all the dates you'll be asked for!!!

It pinches some. But I had staples in my "private area" in 1993 and after that nothing hurts. ;) Honestly it is'nt bad. I asked my surgeon some questions while he was taken them out and that helps get the mind off of it. If you don't have questions, then think of being at your favorit place doing what you like best. Pleasant thoughts help you through unpleasant things. ;)

Does not hurt at all, just piches every once in a while. Good Luck!

Hi Melissa. I was really worried about this too (I'm a real worry-wort). My incision was also really sore & I imagined there would be alot of pain with the removal of the staples. But my surgeon had a numbing spray that he dabbed onto my incision so I didn't feel most of the staples coming out except for occasional very slight painless pulling. By the time he got to the last few staples the numbness from the spray was beginning to wear off and it felt like little pinches but NOT painful at all. And each staple took just a second to come out. But OH how good it feels to have those staples out!

Having the stitches removed was the only thing that worried me about the surgery!!! I wasn't concerned with the anesthesia, the surgery...nothing....I was petrified of having the sutures removed. My incision wasn't even very sore! It was a snap...the resident removed them the morning I was discharged...it took three minutes. He sniped them out, put a couple bandaids on, and that was it. I felt really silly....

When my mother had her staples removed after knee replacement, she described the sensation as being "like a mosquito bite."
