Question:
Does anyone know of a Boston area support group?
I'm looking for a support group for long term wls patients. I did attend one that meets at Beth Israel-Deaconness; but, that was more for prospective patients and very recent patients. I'd like to hear from the "veterans". — [Anonymous] (posted on July 11, 2001)

Dr. Sheldon Randall offers a support group for anyone. Many people attend
(I would say close to 150). They consist of pre-op, post ops, and people
just looking for information. The nutritionist is there, as well as the
program coordinator, and Dr. Randall himself attends. You do not need to
be one of his patients either. I went through Dr. Forse and attend Dr.
Randall's support group (I have more friends there). It is at Lawrence
Memorial Hospital in Medford. I haven't been in a while, so I forget
exactly when they do it. You can call Dr. Randall at Lawrence Memorial and
ask them. Also, I belong to an yahoogroups for patients from all over the
New England area. It is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OSSG-NewEngland
You will need a Yahoo ID to subscribe to it. There are many people there
from many different doctors, all at different stages of WLS. There are
other support groups and these people may be able to steer you in yet
another direction. Good luck

Forgot to mention that at both the meeting w/Dr. Randall and the online
group, there are many long term post ops there 2+ years as well as recent
post ops. Everyone learns from eachother, and the long termers tend to
enjoy helping others. Good luck
