Question:
Is this true or false... Is your belly button cut in open Rny?

OK, I have to know...If you are having an open RNY, do they cut out your belly button? After I come out of surgery, will I have no belly button? I heard this earlier and I wasn't aware of this untill now.    — [Anonymous] (posted on June 24, 2001)

False!! After open RNY you have a scar from the bottom of the breast bone to your belly button. Sometimes with a TT you can end up with it gone.

Another of those 'Urban WLS Legends"! Not only do I have a belly button, but I plan on having it pierced as soon as I get up the gumption!

Don't worry you will still have your belly button. My surgeon cut me from my breast bone down to my belly button and then on around it and straight down a little more. Your belly button will be just fine:)

I would rather have lost the 165 pounds AND the belly button than have to keep them both. Now that I am trying to get the TT I actually think I will miss the little thing. #sigh, I guess I will have to pierce the eyebrow or something instead...hmmmm maybe a tattoo..... <g>

You can have a belly button tattooed on if you loose it in a tummy tuck. Really, a BB is just a scar, right?

My scar doesn't even reach to my belly button!! Thank God for my female surgeon and her small hands, my scar is about 5 inches from my breast bone!!

Don't worry about it. Unless you get a butcher it will still be there. It reminds me of something my surgeon said at a WLS meeting. He saw someone on the internet that said the scar goes from "breast bone to vagina". Well he continued to say, I don't know who is doing that but I don't! Everyone broke out in laughter. Anyway all kidding aside you WILL have a belly button. From what I've heard from others the scars are around 4-6 inches. Mine is 5 1/4 inches. They've improved the surgery over the years and the scars are smaller. Don't worry. ;)
