Question:
Have others noticed skin discoloration after surgery

I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and have noticed the skin around my neck and under my arms has become very dark. I was wondering if anyone else had anything like this happen and what they did for it?    — Barry R. (posted on May 1, 2001)

Yes, I am 8 days post-op and have also noticed discoloration patches in addition to numerous bruises. Between the discoloration and the bruises I look like I have been seriously beaten.

I haven't heard of this what causes it? Talk w/ your Dr sounds like nutritional dyficencies and perhaps you need to get protein or something higher.

The bruises may be caused by the heprin given before and after surgery. As for the neck and armpits, you may want to be checked for polycystic ovary disease. These are some of the sympoms of this disease along with irregular periods, insulin resistance and weight gain. But you may want to mention these symptoms to your ob-gyn.
