Question:
My surgeon just called and feels I may do better with a BPD than a RNY. I need to
I need to hear from those of you who have had this surgery. How are you doing, what kind of weight loss and yes, how severe is the diarrhea? That's the only thing that concerns me. My surgeon is concerned for a leak undoing my Nisson Fundlopication for Acid reflux. He won't have to and I have less risks of complications. I love this surgeon!!! So, please let me know of your experiences. This is also referred to as Billio Pancreatic Duodenal Switch! Thanks for your help! — Linda M. (posted on March 14, 2001)

For information specifically on the BPD/DS, go to www.duodenalswitch.com.
There are diagrams which show the specific differences between a RNY and a
BPD/DS. I'm scheduled for a DS in Sept. 2001, and have emailed several
people who have had this procedure. They have all experienced excellent
weight loss and are very happy. Good luck!

The BPD/DS is a wonderful surgery. I have had very little diarrhea, and
very little nausea. I have one or two bm's per day and while they are a
bit on the soft side I would't say it is the least bit a problem. I wanted
the BPD/DS over the RNY because the stomach operates normally and I can eat
a bigger variety of foods. Please feel free to email me anytime.
