Question:
How long does the procedure last?
I'm having an open rny on this Tuesday the 6th and am getting nervous as is my wife we have full confidence in my surgeon but we would like to know approximately how long the wait is till I can see my wife they said they'd keep her updated but I'm afraid of waking up with tubes and not having her there!! — Thomas L. This is so individually dependent on your surgery and condition. My
experience was that my husband was not allowed in recovery. He did not get
to see me until I was moved to my room. For me (lap surgery, no
complications, excellent recovery), the timing was: surgery @ 7:30; into
recovery room @ 10:00; into regular room @ 3:00. - Kate -

I had my RNY open on 1/8/01. I don't know exactly how long I was in the
operating room (approx. 1-1/2 hrs?) They told me I'd be in recovery about a
hour, but I don't remember a single thing until they rolled me into the ICU
(that's where they put us for the 1st day). I had all the tubes and
everything and still couldn't feel anything. They may give you morphine and
that helps tremendously. All you'll really want to do is sleep. Take care
and good luck -- it will be easier than you think.
