Question:
Should I start using Rogaine pre-op?

I shed now and I haven't had surgery yet. I have 2 weeks before surgery should I start using Rogaine now? I really don't want to have thin hair.    — Courtney B. (posted on January 23, 2001)

It probably won't help much as Rogaine addresses genetic baldness, not the reaction to anesthesia, rapid wt loss and insufficient protein intake. Probably the best you can do for yourself is get started on your protein supplements NOW and maybe something like Hair, Skin & Nails to beef up your reserves. Then resume them as soon as possible after surgery.

Ask your hairdresser about NIOXIN. I use it now due to thyroid disease and have decreased hairloss considerably. My hairdresser is considered an expert on female hairloss post-surgical treatment, including cancer therapies. Knowing that I am having WLS soon, he started me on a different regime to KEEP my hair. Now if he could only keep it from going gray!
