Question:
From what areas does the weight loss begin?

Is there any predictable pattern of from what areas the weight loss comes and in what order? For example, a number of people have told me they lost first from their face, second from their shoulders and third from their tummy. I have lost 30 but all my clothes still fit the same and cannot see from whence the weight is leaving. Is it possible to control from whence the weigh is lost?    — Maggie N. The very first place I felt it was in my lower legs - actually while still in hospital. I'm a pear shape and for some odd but thankfully wonderful reason, I've lost much more from my hips than the other places. I think I'm gonna have smaller hips than I used to when I was thin before I got fat. TAKE YOUR MEASUREMENTS! Keep track each month, you'll be wonderfully surprised with the results. Also, I doubt you can control "from whence the weigh(t) is lost."

I have heard you lose from the top down and I am a testamony to that! My face, shoulders, even fingers, arms, and breasts all went first. Stubborn tummy and bottom and thighs are last. Lifting weights has helpted the bottom and thighs, but I am beginning to wonder if I will ever lose the tummy!!

I think it is true from top to bottom. I have lost 80 lbs so far and can tell a difference in my face, shoulders, chest and unfortunately, my back side. My fantasy in weight loss is to program our bodies to lose where we tell our bodies to lose. My first place would be my stomach(LOL)ahh! dreaming of flat abs.

You lose it from where you gained it last. So, the last thing that got bigger will be taken off first and it will proceed backwards that way (like it came on) Good luck!!

Hi I saw a loss in my ankles while in the hospital. I have them lol had not seen them in years. Next my face, neck, shoulders and boops. Also upper arms and fingers. Tummy is going down now, but have lots to go. I have lost 58 lbs after 2 months. GONE FOREVER. I know if i get out and walk that my legs and upper thighs will get much better, so it is chew chew chew and walk walk walk and drink that water. Good luck to all of you. Jan Plog [email protected]

My ankles and feet were first , then the face. then it seems to have been pretty evenly distributed. According to a plastic surgeon I saw on friday (4-13-01) our bodies continue to shrink for the following year after we reach our goal weights. I wonder if this is true. Hate to doubt the doctor but I really didn't like him! I guess that wouldn't make him stupid!!?

The day after surgery, I noticed my watch was too big. My wedding rings spun around my finger. Each day I watched my hands and wrists shrink as if by magic. As I sipped my water, my hands were always in view and offered such encouragement for me to keep going

I'm like Cindy H. Mine started in the hips and continued that way. For the first time EVER in my life, my hips and bust are very nearly the same measurement. I've got this hourglass figure showing up that I never knew was under all those layers. I've lost about six inches in my chest but I've lost almost 13 in the hips. As far as I know, there is no way to control where you lose weight but exercise definitely helps the toning.

I lost in my face first...then my shoulders, arms, hands, feet, and breasts. Next I lost from my rear, calves, and thighs. Finally, I started losing from my abdomen. All in all, they start evening out. I've lost more in my rear and thighs than I've lost anywhere else on my body (lost my breasts too...I'm a small B or a larger A...I'll take it if it means I will be at a healthy weight). I wish you a great deal of luck and happiness in your WLS journey.
