Question:
Has anyone with phlebitis had this surgery?
Were you required to walk before you could have the surgery? Was there any precautions taken to prevent a blood clot? — [Anonymous] (posted on August 28, 1999)

Blood clots are a significant problem whenever a morbidly obese person is
operated on, for any problem. I give all my patients a small dose of
heparin just before surgery, use automatic compression boots on the calves,
and get them out of bed and walking after the operation on THE DAY OF
SURGERY ! So far it has prevented phlebitis in my patients.
