Question:
Has anyone had a revision after an open RNY?
I am 2 years post op and only lost 79 lbs. I have been at a dead stop for a year now. Will I qualify for a revision. Will a surgeon do a revision of a RNY? — Kristie D. (posted on September 28, 2005)

Was your stomach cut or just stapled? Perhaps you have a ruptured staple
line if you were not cut. I would think they would have to
"look" and see what is going on with your rny before anybody
would consider a revision. You may have gained back the full stomach, can
you eat a lot at one sitting? what are you eating habits? Have you tried
going back to the pouch rules? How are you feeling otherwise? good luck!

I had a revision done after opern RNY in 2001, I had revision in Jan. 2005.
The Dr. had to do the surgery open again and I do not think it was worth
the pain and the cost. I have not lost any weight what so ever this time
and I can still eat anything I want. The first time around I only lost 82
lbs and I still need to lose another 50 lbs to lose.
So no it is not worth going through it the second time around but for
anyone that has never had the surgery before it can be a life saver.

I think they only do revisions on people who have strongly demonstrated
that they have followed everything to a T. The procedure carries great
risk. It depends on how much weight you still have to lose. Did you lose
between 65-85% of your EXCESS (not toal) weight? If that is considered a
success.... not everybody who has the procedure will be skinny afterward
and if your comorbidities are better than it is a success. If not thatn it
may be worth inquiring about...good luck to you!!!!
