Question:
Is food supposed to reflux up into bypassed stomach?

There those that are sensitive to some foods. You have to experiment with
them. You may need to be on an antiacid like Prevacid for awhile. You
don't give a whole lot of information here. How far out are you? Ulcers
can be an issue with wls patients. Lactose, dairy products, can some times
cause issues too. Since I really don't have any thing else to base my
opinions on, I'll stop there. Check with your doctor is probably the best
thing to do.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. The bypassed stomach is usually not
attached to the pouch. Are you talking about refluxing back from the small
intestine through the Y bypass? Or are you having esophogeal reflux
problems? If you eat too much or the wrong food you might have some
reflux, but the pouch produces very little acid so this is not very common.

Rarely a small bridge/tunnel forms between the pouch and the bypassed
stomach. This allows food to enter the bypassed area. Usually if this
happens your appetite balloons up and you don't dump. Check with your
surgeon.

Upper Gi's with small bowel follow thru show no staple line problems. And
yes, the "food" is going through the pouch into the small
intestine and reflux back up the other side. I have had ulcers sincy LAP
RNY 9/03 -170, been limited to very few foods. The surgeon refused to see
me in 3/04 when the ulcers were dignoised. I've seen 4 different GI docs,
tests show Crohns, but they offer no treatment. I've been on 5 mg
prednisone for two years due to RA. None of the doctors will answer the
basic question, should there be reflux in the small bowel into the bypassed
stomach? I have food "intolerences" also, that list has gotten a
whole lot bigger since the RNY.

NO, it should not be refluxing into the bypassed stomach. Keep going to
docs until you find one that will help you. YOu may consider going
somewhere like the Mayo Clinic. As for your Crohn's Disease, you need to go
to a specialist that has expertise in that area of medicine. Do some web
searching until you find one. They are out there. Good luck....debbie
