Question:
I am a 1.5 years out after RNY bypass. I do not want to cut my citrical anymore!

Is it ok NOT to cut pills the size of citrical or centrum after a year and a half? I split them in half now but I figure if I am ever going to try to take them whole I can by now. Anyone take citrical whole?    — cadcock (posted on March 20, 2005)

i stopped cutting mine at about six months post op. The cut edges were sharp on my throat. My multi and calcuim both are horse pills. Sometimes it needs a little extra water to go down and I position it in my mouth the oblong way so it is more narrow. You should be alright.

I am 8 months out and have been taking Citrical whole for a few months now. Prior to that I just couldn't do it, I think I was a little afraid. Did you know Centrum has a chewable form? It is sooo easy to take! I buy it at Walmarts.

I will continue to cut, crush or chew my pills, simply because I want the full benefit of the meds. I'm sure SOME pills have time to break down and be absorbed before leaving our system, but I don't want to risk it. Good luck! ~christi

Since early on, I have been swallowing pills whole. The trick is to drink a good mouthful of water and then do small swallows to wash the pills down! Good luck! Midge

I never cut my pills up. I took them whole from about 1 week post op. I take my supps with coffee in the morning which is probably why I didn't have any problems. the supps start dissolving right away with the warm fluids. Rita
