Question:
Anyone with a Incisional Hernia able to eat more?

I was wondering if any one with an incisional hernia feel that they were able to eat more or if it contributed to the slow loosing in any way?.. I have had an incisional hernia since I was 5 months post op, I am now 13 months out and only down 70 lbs.. I know that after I eat the hernia protrudes worse than before I eat.Was wondering if anyone else had/have this issue....any ideas, or coments would be greatly appreciated..    — Kalli R. Hi, I just had a triple incisional hernia repair and an abdominal plasty done in Sept 04. The PS said that the largest hernia you could fit a grape fruit through. To answer you question, NO, I dont feel the hernias affected my weight loss or making me able to eat more, it shouldnt have anything to do with that. All it is, is a whole in your muscles where your intestines are protruding through. Has nothing to do with how much you can eat, thats your pouch that does that. When my hernias would protrude I would just push them back in, good luck to you. Amy

Hello Kalli, I've had an Incisional Wound and I am 8 mo. post op and it has not healed. My Dr. feel that it is possible that it is b/c of a Incisional Hernia. I have found that for quite some time I have been able to eat more that what should be normal. I've been thinking that it was b/c the WLS Docotr did not do the surgery right, but after reading all of these replies, I'm really wondering if that is not why this all has been going on. I'll try to keep you all posted. Best Wishes to you all.

I also have had a triple hernia repair this month. Very rough indeed. I do not believe my hernias enabled me to eat more. But I have noticed that I am not able to eat as much since surgery. I also have noticed that food does not go down as easily. I am wondering if it has anything to do with the tube being put down my throat during surgery and if it has caused some type of inflamation. I am down 85 lbs in 7 months. I have not lose anything since I was told not to work out at the gym just before christmas. I will not be able to resume working out until April. I am allowed to walk though.

i had repair done about 7 weeks ago, and it does seem like i can eat less than before. i think what happend, is that i wasn't able to hold down more than liquid for about 4 days, and my little stomach shrunk even littler. i do notice greater discomfort when i eat too much than before.
