Question:
Is eating 1 cup of food too much.

I can eat a 1 measuring cup full of food at onetime is that normal. Also at one meal I can eat 1 whole center cut pork chop is my pouch streched.    — stacyr38 (posted on January 14, 2005)

Stacey, Your pouch may be a little stretched, are you drinking with your meals? It is the most common cause of stretching, because it pushes the food through the pouch and allows you to eat more. If you are, just go back to drinking before a meal and then waiting 30-60 minutes after you eat. If I am eating something that makes me really thirsty and I am tempted to drink I put a piece of ice in my mouth and let it melt. I t helps, besides you are still losing and that is good. Good luck.

that was about what I ate at 6 months out. I was initially told by my doc that the pouch is SUPPOSED to stretch somewhat, you couldn't live on the few oz that you ate initially for the long term. I was told by the dietician at my 1 year follow up to expect to eat 1 to 1.5 cups at a meal. This will vary depending on what the food is. I can eat way more than a cup of salad, but meat is another story. the more dense a food generally the more filling. salad, fruit that are more watery take a lot more to fill up on. The pork chop, well how much does it weigh? is it thin small one or a 2 inch thick half pounder? I buy pork chops that are maybe 6 oz tops and I could eat most of it if I don't eat anything else with it.

At 6 months PO I could have possibly eated 1 cup of boiled shrimp because they don't sit real heavy and chew up small but I could not have eaten a whole pork chop. I was more tyupically eating 3/4 of a cup. At almost 2 yrs PO some meals I can eat 1-1/2 to maybe even 2 cups, but rarely. If it's dense meat and that's all I am eating then 1 cup would not be a problem most days. If I'm eating other stuff with it then I doubt it. It all depends on how mushy the stuff is and how much I listen to my body and stop when I should. I am still a fast eater which is not the best. I will typically hit a full feeling in the proper amount of food but many times don't stop there like I should. Or if I stop when I should I find I'm looking for food a short time later as obviosuly it isn't staying in my pouch quite like it should. Some of this has to do with drinking too soon after my meal or maybe taking small drinks while I am eating. I don't drink with my food like I used to pre-op, but also do not totally tow the mark like I did for the first year or so PO. <p>If all you ate was the pork chop then don't panic but remember that as time goes on you will be able to eat more food and the more you push it early on the more you will likely end up eating in the long haul and it may make it tougher to get that last weight off or to maintain. Trust me maintaining is the issue for me. I hit goal quickly but the old ugly eating habits have returned and I stuggle with them a lot. It's all up to me though and also up to you. Keep focused on the long haul and be cautious of pushing to far too fast. Good Luck.
