Question:
Hi all, i have been approved for a Panniculectomy but

i still weigh 200lbs (lost 105lbs), i am tall so i look less. I am scheduled for Aug.18th 2004. Will i start sagging again if i loose more weight?? I really need this surgery the hanging skin is killing my self esteem. Hopefully this will motivate me to loose more. I just hope its not all for nothing, if i exercise it should stay firm right???    — roxxyblue72 (posted on June 16, 2004)

I would think your Drs know best, but I would be hesitant unless your weight was stable, or it was immediately necessary for your health. Most are advised to wait until they are at goal, or within 20 pounds of it, and stable. I am scheduled too, in August. I am actually below goal by 12 pounds, and at the time of surgery will be 18 months post op. A friend of mine on the OH site just had her TT along with a hernia repair. She had no choice as the hernia was dangerously large and posed a serious health risk. Her surgeons decided that it was best to do the 2 procedures at once. Just do some research and question your Drs.. Good luck!!!

As long as your plan isn't to lose more than about another 20-25 lbs after surgery things should be okay. I had my LBL at 217 lbs. They removed 19 lbs of skin so I came out of surgery below my 200 lbs goal weight. The lowest I have gotten since that first PS was 192. I've just had a 2nd PS procedure and won't know what I actually weigh until all the swelling etc. goes down, which will be probably 6 weeks. I'm 5'9. <p>I know everyone says we should be at goal weight and then stable for a number of months but it was not something I was interested in doing. I was not going to spend the summer with the excess skin on my gut if I didn't have to. My surgeon made sure that I understood that losing more than about 25 lbs after PS would probably produce a result I would not be happy with. It was a risk I was willing to take. As tight as he has my skin I'm guessing 25 lbs and maybe even some more would not cause a negative effect. I am not sorry I made the decision I did and if it become necessary he can do a little nip and tuck in the future, but it should not be an issue. The absolute lowest I want to get is 180, so that's well below that 25 lb range he gave me.
