Question:
I'm no where new the plastic surgery stage yet, still droppin' weight.

I'm still droppin' weight like a holey water bucket.. which I'm really thankful for. I'm not ready for plastic surgery, yet. And I've heard that a tummy tuck can be justified through insurance, maybe because of a rash between the skin folds... OK now for my real question. Has anyone ever been successful getting their arms or legs with help from insurance. If so, How? AND... Has anyone been successful using some kind of depression with getting insurance approval? I'm gettin depressed lookin at my arms and legs. Michelle-10/13/03 425/271/200 -154 lbs.    — Michelle J. (posted on June 1, 2004)

I can't speak from experience on the legs and arms, but I think the bottom line is any plastic surgery will not be covered unless it causes debilitating problems that are not treatable by other methods. I highly doubt depression could be cited since that alone would not cause WLS to be approved either. Insurances will say it has to be treated with medication and/or therapy and that you cannot prove PS will remedy that. Good luck with your journey and congrats on your weight loss!

I think you can get a lot covered if you can prove medical necessity. Start documenting all rashes, aches, and pains. Take pictures. Save receipts and never take no for an answer. I just had my tummy tuck approved along with lipo.

I know for sure a thigh lift was approved by insurance for a friend of mine. I know many wls patients and I believe that I heard one had her arms approved. I'd have to hunt that info down however. I had a TT/abdominalplasty, and breast lift approved. Make sure NOW you are getting all the rashes documented by seeing your MD each time you get them. This will help you when you try to get these PS procedures approved later. Best of luck!
