Question:
When or does the food flavor come back or get better? I am one month post-op.
I am following the diet plan, but the food lacks flavor. I eat my protein first and if there is room I eat vegies I have not tried any fruits up to this point. Does this improve or something that will stay this way? — debra T. (posted on May 17, 2004)

Most things started tasting better within the first two or three months.
But there are still things that taste weird to me at over 2 years out.
These things are things that would get me in trouble, so I don't mind.

I had NO appetite for the first 2 months post-op. I only ate about 300
calories a day due to no appetite, nausea and food tasting like crap. All
of a sudden, one day, food started tasting better and I've been fine ever
since. Sometimes, I miss those days when food tasted like crap!!

I think this differs from person to person. Some things tasted normal to
me just after surgery and some things didn't. I am now 5 1/2 months post
op and some things still taste odd to me, but most things started to seem
more normal at 2-3 months post-op.

I CAN NOT relate to any of this. Everything I eat taste better. I think it
is because I am eating slow and small bites...actually tasting my food. I
hope thinks get better for you.

Food just doesn't taste intoxicatingly good like it used to. Fortunately,
I no longer look to it for pleasure--- it really has just become pure
sustenance for me.
