Question:
Has anyone experienced very slow weight loss in the beginning?

I was a size 18 [198 lbs, 4' 10"], the day of surgery I now fit comfortably in a size 14 and even fit a size 12 stretch jeans nicely. I began exercising as my doctor told me to and have exercised regularly. I have lost lots of inches but not a lot of weight, I am afraid that I will not lose the rest of my weight. I have not weighed at my surgeon's office and will do that on the 25th of May, however I had an appointment with my primary care physician on yesterday and was told that I weigh 182lbs. I am in a panic, why have I not lost more weight, I am very careful with my food, exercise at least five days a week, drink a gallon of water a day, and I do not know what else to do? HELP! — Sharon L. (posted on May 11, 2004)

Different scales can read very different amounts, even at doctors offices, before surgery I weighed in at my surgeons office, then weighed at my pcp about a month later and was down 20 lbs, only to find that when going back to my surgeons office the 20 lbs was back.. and no I didn't lose 20 and regain it, the scale at my pcp was 20 lbs off!!

I bet you're pleasantly surprised when you weigh in at your surgeons office.

If I read correctly you just had surgery in Feb..You are doing TERRIFIC to lose 4-5 sizes in such a short time.. I felt just like you and thought..why isnt the scale moving but it did..ever so slowly. It WILL happen..I was told the same thing at your post op point and thought ..*sure* but suddenly 8 months later I am down over 100 pounds.. Hang in there, keep doing what you are doing.. Hugs.

Here's the catch, I was told that that Pre-Ops that weighed more lose more and lose it faster. It's true I've seen a few cases. And those who weigh less - lose slower than those who weigh more. So it would seem like your choices is to gain more weight so you can lost more weight faster. No I don't think so right? In my opinion you're doing GREAT for me eventually the scale caught up with the inches I lost. Remember if you are losing in ounces you won't see the results right away on scale, but if you stay away from the scale - and weigh-in monthly you'd be totally surprised. Good Luck and keep doing what you're doing, it's working believe me.
