Question:
Has anyone ever had a tubal during a lap ryn?
I am specifically interested in if it took the insurance carrier longer to approve or not. I have tricare prime...... just any info period on anyone who has ever done this — cedsangel (posted on February 19, 2004)

Okay - this might not be THAT much of a help - but a lap RNY is actually is
couple of surgeries - transecting, reconnecting, etc... and adding another
complicated surgery to that and another disciplined surgeon might open you
up to a lot of complications. When I asked my WLS surgeon if he would do
another surgery during the lap RNY, he said no way - because it spreads the
"blame" of risks to another dept... and another team has to be
brought in during the time you are under anesthesia. But of course, I am
not a doc. Best wishes to you.

Having a tubal done is not a major surgery. The problem you will likely
have is that the WLS Doc. (probably) will not want to be responsible for
the tubal and you may have problems coordinating Docs and surgery time. You
have a greater risk from being "put under" twice than from having
two surgeries at once-thay do it all the time, just turn on any real life
trauma show and watch (although this is obviously not an emergency). Why
do you have to have then both done at the same time? A new technology is
available where that tubal can be done vaginally. ~Keri
