Question:
Anyone else experiencing numbness in part of their stomach?
I'm 15 1/2 months post-op RNY and lately there are times when I'm feeling a sort of numbness in the right hand side of my stomach, lower than my pouch would be - sort of even with my belly button and a bit higher. Perhaps numbness isn't the right word, since we don't usually "feel" our stomach at all and maybe it's a kind of pins and needle feeling. It doesn't hurt at all and I've got no other problems/complications. It just feels slightly odd, and I wonder what could be causing it this far out? Is it possible to have a hernia and not experience it as painful? I do have excess skin in this area as I've not had a tummy tuck yet, but it only occurs on the right side whereas the skin is on both sides of my belly button! — sandsonik (posted on January 1, 2004)

heals but I am used it . Doesnt hurt or bother me just sort of odd as you

I am 4 months post op and have a small area on the right side of my stomach
just above one of my scars that is numb when I notice it. I usually don't
notice it at all. I asked my surgeon about it at my 1 week post op visit
and the doctor said they may have cut or bumped a nerve during surgery. He
said it would probably take several months to heal and there may be some
numbness there always. It does not bother me any and most of the time I
don't even think about it.

I haven't had my by-pass surgery yet but I can speak from experiance after
having 15 surgeries on all parts of my body. All of my incision sites have
a numbness about them. Some more than others. My last surgery was in August
2003 on my throat and hip and both places are numb. My first surgey on my
knee back in 1984 STILL to this day is numb. I would imagine any place that
has been CUT into would be numb, after all our bodies are full of nerves.
Hope this answers your question.
