Question:
My incision has healed so nicely!! But it is tender underneath...
Is it because the under layers are still healing together? It's a little painful, but is there anything I can put on it to take that pain away? It's more of a distraction, I guess. Michelle 10/13/03-425/367/200? — Michelle J. (posted on November 25, 2003)

It will take a while before the abdominal muscles will come together in the
healing process. While we all may have a layer of fat, there are underlying
layers of muscles that had to be cut through to the surgery itself. If done
lap there are just fewer incisions but open is a whole new ball of wax, and
that is why we have to be extra careful post op. I want to get back on my
bicycle and lifting weights but my doc said no to all forms of this type of
exercise for 6 weeks, to allow the abdominal muscle structure to reknit and
heal completely, if not, my doc said I can be certain of having the scene
from aliens being recreated in my lap, needless to say, I'm taking his
advice! I have very little scarring, but it is still tender underneath.
Just take your time, and let nature take it's course.

It's all those nerves they had to cut through! That and the tissue healing
and causing the internal stitches to pull. Then the scar tissue will pull!
I'm 5 mos out today and I still have twinges and tenderness. Lately I've
had a lot in the area around the incision itself-like where my staples
were. It'll get better!
