Question:
What do you think is the reason I see bright lights when I close my eyes?
Two perfect circles of bright light when I close my eyes tight? Does this sound like anything? A reaction to some kinda medication? Not a bother, just noting something that I wanted to ask about. Thanks all for bearing with my silly questions!! lmao MJ — Michelle J. (posted on October 20, 2003)

I would check with your doctor, but when this same thing happened to me, I
found out I was dehydrated. I waited too long, though, passed out and
ended up in the hospital for a few days on IV fluids. Good luck to you!

Bright lights, flashing light or 'lightening bolts' with eyes open or
closed are sometimes a sign of a blood pressure problem, too high or too
low. Could also be a sign of pre-migraine. Please get in checked out by
your PCP and/or an eye doctor. It's not normal to see lights.

I don't want to alarm you but, get to a doctor right away. Have him check
blood pressure etc and CHECK YOUR EYES ESPECIALLY!!!!! flashes of light or
seeing bright light when your eyes are closed can be a sign of holes that
are starting to form in your retina which can lead to blindness if not
taken care of by laser or surgery. If you haven't had any other vision
problems it is probably something less sever as some of the other posters
have stated but, don't take your sight for granted. I know this from
personal experience and it's no fun hearing that I might have gone blind if
I had ingored it much longer. Thank God everything is ok now.

I have very bad eyesight (nearsighted-legally blind) but can use contacts
to see. Anyways the Dr said that since my eyesight is so nearsighted that
if I ever see any bright lights (AT ANY TIME) to getv in the office
IMMEDIATELY. It could be (the thing that is very stretchy in your eye for
nearsighted people) a tearing that if not corrected immediately could cause
PERMANENT BLINDNESS. Please check into this ASAP as this could really be a
dangerous situation. This is not at all a silly question!! Becky

Yeah! That's it, a tear in the retina. I'm glad someone knew the proper
name for this.
