Question:
Is it normal to have a

I'm 4 1/2 months post-op. I've had an appetite since the very beginning days after surgery. Of course, I'm satisfied now on a much smaller amount of food, but I read so much about people who have no appetite and have to force or remind themselves to eat. I've never been like that. I look forward to meals and enjoy food (only in a healthier way)just like pre-surgery. Are there any others out there like me, and is this normal? Bonnie Lap RNY 5/6/03 -85lbs    — Bonnie R. Bonnie, I'm only 2 weeks out and am one of those who I have to force myself to eat, but can pretty much eat anything and have no problems, yet... I have met plenty of people and even a girl whom had surgery the same day as me, who enjoys eating and looks forward to every meal. I just think it all comes down to how different our bodies are and how they react.. I think what you are feeling is very normal.... Congrats on the 85lbs!

My not being hungry only lasted about two months. I wish it had lasted longer.

Hi, once the "honeymoon" period is over about 6 months or so..my hunger, head hunger came back. In the beginning I had to force myself to eat...I literaly could have gone without food entirely...I just had no desires at all to eat or interest in food. However, that did go away, but at least with this tool I know I'm limited in my amounts and types of foods...a built in failsafe so to speak.

I don't ever remember not wanting to eat, and since about 4 or 6 months out, I get really hungry, and pretty frequently too. I never, ever need to be reminded to eat!!

I'm two months one week out and am now fighting the hunger, both head and real. It's been a tough week so far. It doesn't help that I've hit one of those plateaus everyone talks about. Yikes! Rosa

I've always been the same way. I always worried too when I saw that most people weren't hungry at all the first few months. I still haven't wanted to eat more than 3 or 4 times a day, but I get pretty hungry sometimes between meals. Lap RNY 5/19/03 -63lbs.

Enjoy regaining your limited appetite. At 18 months I still have no appetite and have to force myself to eat, especially at home. I mainly use protein drinks and bars to get in my 100 grams a day (with beef jerky occasionally). Can't say I have ever looked forward to a meal since the surgery. Of course, I was somewhat the same beforehand. Didn't eat regularly, sometimes nothing for a couple of days, and then would eat the wrong things, a burger and fries. Even with that my average daily caloric intake was less than 1200. (Could this be why I am such a slow looser?) I do miss enjoying a meal, even lobster, my all time favorite, doesn't appeal.

yes, I get hungry, but I don't eat anything like I used to. I can eat small meals and snacks, but at 9 months out and down 100 lbs, I am no longer looking for a big mac, fries and a large coke. I can eat 1/2 of a happy meal burger and 3-4 fries. I'm satisfied and happy. The weight is still coming off but slowly and it's enough of a motivator. Best wishes-CB 298/190/175 RNY 1/28/03 :)

I wish I would be one who didn't care about eating! I have enjoyed food since I had surgery, and, in fact, tried to make my pureed diet as tasty as possible! I still enjoy food, but in much smaller portions, and I don't eat a lot of the stuff I used to really like that was high fat, high calorie. I also try to have something about every 3 hours to keep my blood sugar stable. I don't see anything wrong with this.
