Hi there. Protein can be gotten in by several different means. These are some of the items I eat in order to get in protein each day. Mozarella string cheese, sliced deli meat and a piece of cheese wrapped together, beans, and fish. These are just some of the items I eat. I have NEVER cared for the protein bars/shakes/powders. I have however made my own shakes. I will use skim milk, bananas, and no sugar added vanilla ice cream. (You can use any kind of fruit like blueberries, etc.) This gets in protein too. I wish you luck with your struggle. God bless you.

I just got a can of Campbell's Bean w. Bacon soup that's high pro. I've gone to Taco Bell for their refried beans several times and made refried beans at home. Also chili with no beans is high in protein. They make little cans of chicken (in tins like tuna) that are delish, eaten right out of the can or mixed with instant mashed potatoes. I like cottage cheese too.

I couldn't stand the dry protein mixes, but love Isopure Zero Carb Protein drink in Icy Orance. It is clear and comes in 20 fluid ounce bottles. No mixing required. I pour it over shaved ice for a slushy effect and drink it all day long. It supplies 40 grams of 100% pure whey protein. It also comes in different flavors. I can get it at the local health food store, GNC or The Vitamin Shoppe. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem as you. I could NOT find a protein drink that I could tolerate. A friend from here at AMOS started using one that she liked and told me about it. I figured I had nothing to lose and ordered it. I LOVE IT! I bought Unjury Chocolate mix. It is a powder but when mixed with 6 or 8 oz of skim milk it is chocolate milk. My kids even love it, I have to hide it from them. It is expensive like all other protein drinks but well worth it for me. I just ordered 4 more cans and 1 of the unflavored to see what that one is like. Just go to www.Unjury.com . Good luck!!!!

Try this. One glass skim milk, add one scoop of powdered milk, and mix with SF Carnation instant breakfast. It has over 20 in protein. What a deal and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg and best of all it doesn't taste like @$$!!!

Judy, Congrats on maing it to the healthy side of life. I see you are only about 12 days PO so please be careful with things too heavy/dense. I would doubt you would tolerate protein bars at this stage. I have just started using them in the last 2 months as an occassional snack and find they sit very heavy. I like the carb solutions bars. One day I ate one for lunch and it sat like a lead weight for about 3-4 hours. It was over 6 hours before I could even think of eating again. <p>I am not a protein drink person so I cannot help there. If you cannot find anything to drink you need to call the surgoen and get their okay before moving to soft foods. Soft foods are safe as long as you take tons of care when eating, but do not do this on your own without their knowledge. Good Luck!

I recommend that you try single-serving samples of various protein powders from vitalady.com or wlssuccess.com, especially the Proscore 100 Chocolate, Chocolate whey stack, and banana scream flavors, but try lots and lots of different ones before giving up. Typically, people who have tried and rejected protein drinks just haven't tried enough of them to find the right one -- you really do have to wade through a lot of bad ones to find a good one or two. I think I tried at least a dozen or more awful ones before I found one or two that I liked, and I still use the one I like at 15 months post-op to help keep my protein levels high enough to avoid protein deficiencies in my lab work (my protein levels are low-normal, even with 120 grams or more of protein consumed daily, half from food and half from shakes -- I do not believe that, even as a proximal RNY patient, I would be adequately served by trying to get all of my protein from food, or my labs would be better than they are). JMHO, but when I noticed how many long-term post-ops swore by protein shakes, I decided it was not something I was gonna give up on easily. I'm glad I didn't. Good luck!

I have found an unflavored powder at GNC called PRO PERFORMANCE. It also comes in flavors, but I just add a scoop to at least 8 oz of milk, blend for 20 seconds and drink through a straw. I've heard you're not supposed to drink through a straw, but I just sip slowly. I hate that frothy stuff on top, so this way I don't get it in. It has 21 grams of protein, plus the 8 grams from my milk, so I'm getting 29 grams a glass. ~~~ Another idea is the double milk - which I found to be to rich personally - but you add 1/3 cup powdered milk to 8 oz of milk and you get 16 grams of protein. Here's a link to the GNC page about the powder: http://www.gncproperformance.com/goods/product/default.asp?id=350529&c=6

I am 26 days psot-op and I have used EAS Metroplex since day one, the only flavor I like is the Strawberry Cream, the Vanilla is okay, the chocolate is to sweet for me. You can get them a most food stores, Albertson's, Fry's or a Health Food store, also they have them at Walmart. They are about 20 gms protein and 100 calories for 6oz protein shake. Hope this helps

I use AMINO INFUSION 5000 that I get from vitalady.com. I get the grape and raspberry flavor and take 7 tablespoons of it first thing in the morning for 35 grams of protein. It's fairly sweet, but kind of like a cough syrup effect. Quick and fairly painless. Then the rest of the day I get my protein from food. If you're out, many things from taco bell are good, but you have to watch the sodium in them. When I was fairly new as a post-op, I did their refried beans a lot or the insides of a burrito. Now a good staple for me is beef jerky. The Jack Link beef jerky is 15 grams of protein per ounce. You have to chew it to death and helps with the hungry urges because it takes so long to chew a piece. Another thing I did that I loved when I was new post-op was cottage cheese with savory spices added. I used a lot of basil, garlic, pepper, etc. That got me through. Healthy Choice soups have a pretty good protein mixture too.

I used Carnation Instant Breakfast Drinks and added powdered milk for the extra protein. They taste pretty good and come in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. They cost about $3-4 a box and a bag of powdered milk is inexpensive as well. Hope that helps Torran

Protein drinks are bad and so are the bars.I would go online and pull up protein bars. I found a website that sold brownies s/f, pancakes, cookies s/f and all kinds of stuff with extra protein. JUst look around. You will find something you like.
