Question:
What if you gain weight pre-up
My surgery is scheduled for 8/11. If I go to the surgeon 8/4 and have gained weight since he last saw me, will my surgery be postponed? I have heard of this happening. PLEASE ADVISE! — cbuchanan (posted on July 17, 2003)

That answer depends on your surgeons policy and how much you have gained. I
have seen posters here on AMOS say that their surgeon cancelled due to a
weight gain, however most of those had very high BMI's to start with. Other
posters have gotten the surgery even with a modest to light weight gain.

My surgeon will cancel you if you've gained weight since your consult. I
asked her phys. asst. how much weight gain, and she said 5 or 6 pounds
shouldn't make much difference. However, later on, I found out that my
surgeon had cancelled 5 patients in 3 weeks due to weight gain. I didn't
ask how much they gained - I was afraid to find out!! My surgery is
scheduled for 9/11/03, and I'm 5 pounds more than my consult weight, so I'm
working to get that off. I would check with your surgeon or his/her staff
to find out what their policy is. If you don't have too much to lose, you
still have a few days to try to get it off. Good luck!
