i know that sounds like a lot of time but it really isnt if you have gotten
your pcp to give your prescriptions for meridia adepex etc or if you have
told hime you tried the atkins just have him/her write a letter with all of
that in it for the past year you have been obese for more than a year
right!!

Blue cross blue sheild health options said the same thing.
They wanted a year of supervised diets. I sat down and wrote my diet
history from 13 years old until my present age, 44. Because I had been on
Physicians Weight Loss, Weight Watchers twice and had several months with
Doctor supervised, They took the combination of that time to form the one
year requirement. I was surprised to hear that they consider time with
Weight Watchers as the same as Doctor supervised. I did learn that it would
have been better to have the primary care physician incorporate that diet
history in his letter of neccessity. But, I was approved anyway.

Hi hon, i had to do the same thing and i wrote down every diet and date of
diet i could remember actually I had to write down the last 10 yrs of
diets. NON and SUPERVISED diets now look at it this way k, if you were
seeing your reg dr for the last year and you told him about any diets that
is a supervised diet because he is technically supervising it by writing
down your progress. Just go with the flow write as much down as you can as
far back as you can and go with that..I am sure it will be ok good luck to
you .........

Yes, that was the requirement of my insurance. I have even seen some that
require the last 12 months prior to the request for the approval, some that
require 2 years out of the last 5 years. If you have been to your Dr. in
the year mult. time and they weighed you and you were on some kind of diet,
he may write a letter for you stating the dates and weights.

I have Capital Health Plan and they require 12 months as well...just
utilize that time to get your things in order and you will be surprised at
how time flies! Be encouraged.

Mine expects a year of "physician supervised attempts at weight
loss". Basically as long as I've seen my doctor every month and we
reviewed exercise and food management, that's being "physician
supervised". Some plans ask for even longer - count your blessings!

Reading your post made me call my insurance company. The lady put me on
hold to ask a nurse how far back I needed to go on diet history. I about
hit the floor when she came back and said TWO years! I told her most
companies I heard of only want 6 mo to a year. I hope she was wrong.
