Question:
Any Suggestions?
I am scheduled for surgery on June 26. I am to start a liquid diet 7 days before surgery and I am to remain on it for 2 weeks post op. The problem I am having is that I can only come up with broths & jello. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, what can I do to curb my hunger for the 7 days prior to surgery? Thanks in advance for any information. — Christina P. (posted on June 5, 2003)

Personally I think liquid diets over 24 hours pre-op are cruel...and have
no idea how you'll curb your appetite :>( As for other things besides
broth and jello...popcicles, strained soups (tastes better than most
broths), sugar-free syrups drizzled over shaved ice, pulp-free-diluted
clear fruit juice (apple, pear, cranberry, white grape). You also didn't
mention if this is a clear liquid diet only or if full liquids are
allowed...that opens up a whole new range of items. Best of luck to you!

YUCK! WHY are you going on liquids prior to surgery?? Look at my profile
for recipes and liquid diet ideas. Are you allowed protien shakes? Email
me, if you want more ideas than are on my profile... Good Luck! :~)

My friend had to do the same thing prior to her surgery. She was told to
drink a protien shake in the morning and afternoon, then for dinner she
could have 3 ounces of meat and a couple of veggies. (It sounded just like
Slim Fast to me, LOL! ) She bought protien shakes from GNC called Metrix...
She was also permitted to have cream soups, too. Were you told to eat only
broth and jello?

i imagine you are going on liquids because your doc told you to. Broth and
jello are pretty much it IF you are to be on clear liquids. also crystal
light. The cream soups and etc are considered FULL liquids. The choice
widens a little then.

Christina,
It depends on whether you are going to be on a clear liquid diet or a full
liquid diet. A clear liquid diet is anythings that you can see threw and
is liquid at room tempature. Examples are chicken an beaf broths, jello,
popcycles, and tea. If you are allowed full liquids, you can also add
cream soups, ice cream, pudding. Try the jello, it is very filling.
