Question:
Any women post ops anovulatory while losing weight?
I am 41 and almost six months post op Rny. I have noticed that the last two cycles have been anovulatory which is unusual for me. Has anyone else experienced this as they are losing weight? I would like to try to have another child and if this keeps happening I will need to look to discuss medical intervention with my dr. It COULD be I am perimenepausal...(sigh) or perhaps my body is adjusting to the weight loss? Any ideas or similar experiences? — TanaMom2JAM (posted on March 20, 2003)

I am 19 months post op and I still have some problems with my period. I go
for 3 days and then spot for 14. i talked to my GYN and he said that i
have lost weight so fast that my hormones are messed up and time will help.
You need to wait at least a year before trying for a baby, so dont' get
discoraged yet. You have plenty of time.
Good Luck

Hi, original poster here. Diane, the reason I suspect I have been
anovulatory is because I always can feel the ovulation cramping each month
and then have the same type of period each month. The past two months my
temps have been off, no ovulation pain, delayed and very light period.
My surgeon did say that because of my age, he wanted me to be atleast six
months out from surgery before attempting pregancy. He understands my not
wanting to wait the 'recommended' year to eighteen months as my age would
cause higher risks(downs syndrome and so on). I guess it makes sense that
our weight loss causes our hormones to go nuts but to be on the safe side,
I will schedule an appt w/ an RE or my gyn to have an LH test done.

I know what you mean, i'm anovulatory now pre-op. No cramps, no breast
tenderness and sometimes no period for months on end. But I was told that
loosing the weight would give me a better chance of starting to ovulate.
