Question:
Are There Any Foundations That Help Pay For WLS?
My Mother-In-Law wants the surgery but doesn't make enough to pay for insurance. Are there any foundation avaiable that would help the cost? She is FL. — Cindi R. (posted on March 9, 2003)

I've heard that Vocational Rehab will pay for the surgery. I understand
what your going through, my mother wants to get it done and she can't pay
the 20% that Medicare doesn't cover. So we are going to be trying the Voc
Rehab route for her.

Voc Rehab may or may not pay. Some of it depends on the state you live in.
Voc Rehab is a program to help people who are unemployed or underemployed
due to various physical problems. Some states will cover WLS, but others
won't. However, it is worth a call to your state's Voc Rehab office.

You might want to look at your state's web site to see if there is any info
there. The state web sites are www.statename.gov. Put your state's full
name in place of statename.
