Question:
Does anyone think that an Iron supplement will help my energy level?
I am 4 months post-op and found out that I need 325 mg. of Iron, via a blood test. Does anyone have any knowledge that this will give me or give me back my energy? I have been losing weight and feeling great..........but tired..:+( alot. I was hoping to find out a reason other than being 45 years old for being tired. Just curious, I'm on the way to Walmart for my Iron....hope this helps...SRING is on the way and I want to be raringgggg to gooooooooooooo!! Thanks Much!! :+) from Phila. — Robin R. Hi Robin, I just posted on this same subject basically. Did your doctor
tell you to take 325mg a day of iron? If so did he specify what type? I
have been taking 50mg of Carbonyl Iron but don't think it's doing the
trick. Thanks!

If you are RNY, you need protein, iron, calcium, A, D, E, zinc & B12,
to name a few. So, if any component is missing, you might (or might not)
"feel" it. The 325mg iron is a ferrous SULFATE measure (iron
salts), and since that one is not well absorbed, you may not feel any
better (and might feel worse). The fe sulfate contains 65mg of elemental
iron, usually. If you want to match it, try 3 of the carbonyl irons (75mg
elemental iron), which is WAY more gentle, both coming & going, if you
catch my drift.

i was anemic to begin with, pre-op, and my surgeon prescriped Foltrin
(Trinsicon) iron capsules for me to start taking at 6 weeks post-op. until
then i was SO weak and listless and exhausted that i could barely make it
through a day without napping. since i've been on the iron supplement, my
energy level has improved by leaps and bounds! i feel normal and active,
and i don't get worn out by 11AM, like before. i would definitely check
into a good iron supplement, sounds like you could benefit from it.
