Question:
I have severe aching pain above elbow, below shoulder area.
I don't believe it is joint pain or arthritis as the pain is strictly confined, in BOTH arms, to the upper arm area between my shoulder and my elbow. It is especially severe when I bend or flex my arms, like when I fold them under my pillow to sleep at night. I can flex my muscles without pain and work out at the gym without pain. However, the ache pain is severe at times and I'm wondering what on earth it could be. Anyone experience anything similar? I lost 156 pounds since 9/28/91 WLS surgery but have stabilized now. — cjtich (posted on February 17, 2003)

I had the same pain in my right arm..I went to the DR and he said I had
Bursitis and Tendonitis. HE gave me 2 cortizone shots and it got better. I
would go to the Dr because it wont go away if that is what it is..

I had a similar problem and it was tendonitis. My doctor sent me for some
physical therapy. They did some ultrasound treatments and they worked with
me (exercises) to strengthen the muscles between shoulder and spine and it
went away.

I don't know what's causing your pain, but I do know that pain from the
shoulder will be referred to the upper arm. I injured my shoulder a couple
of years ago and it became an inflammatory condition called "frozen
shoulder", or adhesive capsulitis. You probably *don't* have this, if
your range of motion isn't affected. But it could be that there is some
injury or trauma in your shoulders which you're feeling in the upper arm.
