Be patient. It's possible that you could have gained in the hospital from
all the IV fluids. My surgeon didn't allow us to weigh in the hospital and
asked us not to until we saw him in his office. I don't ever weigh except
at his office or at support group meetings - that way I don't get so
discouraged. Believe me, you will lose - it will happen.

I had lap RNY on 10/29/02 and was in the hospital for 2 days. I came home
with an extra 15 lbs. of fluid. (ANd I started with a BMI of 41!) It took
almost 2 weeks to get rid of it. Also, on liquids only, your body may be
responding to "famine". Give it a few more days and I would bet
you will drop several pounds over a very short amount of time.

I am almost 10 weeks post-op. One thing I've noticed is that, if my
calories are too low, my weight loss stalls. If I up them (especially with
protein), my weight loss picks up. I try to keep them around 800 a day and
track them at fitday.com. Don't stress out--once you can start eating
solid foods, your weight loss will probably pick up. Your body is probably
in starvation mode right now.

I gained 10lbs in the hospital and it took me over a week to get rid of
it--then the weight started coming off--it will be patient--

It's the water weight from all those IV's. Dont worry a single second about
it. Just keep drinking lots, and your body will begin to flush it out. Good
Luck! (open RNY 7/23/02 -93 lbs)
