Question:
SHOULD I JUST CONSIDER THIS A LOST CAUSE?

CHECK OUT MY PROFILE FOR THE WHOLE STORY Well I JUST CAME BACK FROM MY UPPER GI, GALLBLADDER ULTRASOUND AND VARIOUS LABS. AFTER THAT I HAD AN APPT. WITH MY GYN!!!!!!!! I'M SO DEPRESSED, AND I'M A PERSON THAT LETS VERY LITTLE GET ME DOWN. WHY ARE ALL OF MY DOCTORS CORRUPTED, HE TOLD ME AFTER I HAVE A SURGERY THAT HE WANTS ME TO HAVE AND BY JANUARY HE WILL WRITE ME A LETTER OF MEDICAL NECESSITY, WELL GEUST WHAT I'M TOTALLY AGAINST THIS SURGERY BUT I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE PUT IT OFF LONG ENOUGH, AND I NEED TO HAVE THIS OPERATION BEFORE I NEED A HYSTERECTOMY. I'VE READ UP ON THE OVARIAN WEDGE RESECTION AND FROM WHAT I READ IT IS NOT DONE ANYMORE FOR PCOS, ESPECIALLY NOT BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE IS TRIED. THERE IS A 30% CHANCE OF DEVELOPING ADHESIONS INSIDE YOUR OVARIES AND CAUSING INFERTILITY AND THAT'S THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE OPERATION! ALL I CAN THINK OF IS ASKING THE LORD WHERE SHOULD I GO FROM HERE?    — deniece M. (posted on November 13, 2002)

Where do you go? To another doctor! Don't ever let a doctor talk you into a surgery you do not want and may not need. You pay them, they are basically employed by you. Fire them hire someone more appropriate for what you need and get your letter of medical necessity. The gastric bypass will most likely help if not cure your PCOS - it did mine!

Evelyn I was ike you pre op! At the end of my rope. Life at 313 pounds wasnt worth living and I felt I had NO choice but surgery.<P> Looking back planning WLS was the WORST experience of my life. But having it was the best decision I ever made. You can do it too! I cringed at only being able to eat one egg sized portion of food, loosing my friend ice cream and sweets, and never being able to eat so and so again... Well I can and do eat ANYTHING, food volume is now what other thin folks eat. Like one pizza hut personal pan supreme. I eat small amounts of everything. But do try to limit sweets. Get surgery, it will woork. Once its over you will see why POST OP IS THE PLACE TO BE!:)

If the doc is against WLS IGNORE him and see my profile! I ran into one of those as well. Sleep apnea doc tried to scare me from having surgery. Glad I didnt let him get me down.

Most insurance companies will gladly pay for a second opinion.

Evelyn, PCP's are a dime a dozen. Get a new one and a 2nd opinion. He doesn't have the last say! So do as the others are telling you: IGNORE HIM AND GET A NEW PCP! Ask around and see who is PRO WLS. Sounds like this guy needs to be slapped upside the head.

Get a new PCP. See what they think. Then go from there. Good Lux

Go get another doctor. My sister has PCOS also and they are controlling it with medicine. Has anyone checked your pituatary gland? Do not have the surgery for PCOS unless you want to. It sounds a little radical. one doctor told my sister to have an operation, she is only 24 and she wants to have kids someday, so she went to another dr. Good luck and I'll be praying for you and I hope God will guide you in the right direction.

I have PCOS also-was diagnosed after gaining so much weight and never being able to get it off. Tried for 4 yrs. to have a baby. I used clomid, fertility shots, and after the up-down rollercoaster w/ the shots I decided to have laproscopic surgery done on my ovaries to take care of the cysts. It was one day surgery, no complications afterwards, and it took 6 months and I was pregnant. I also took Glucophage which is reported to help PCOS patients w/ their symptoms and w/ infertility. I carried full term and have a beautiful son who will be a year old on Thanksgiving Day! If you don't want to have this surgery, don't. If you think there is a chance it may help you then go for it. If you don't like your dr., find another one suited for you. That I had to do in order to have the surgery. She's been practicing since infertility treatments really got started. God bless and hope you find your answers soon! P.S.-I had ruan-y done Aug. 26th and had it done because I couldn't lose w/ the PCOS. So glad I had it done!!!!

I've read this a few times on this board. So here goes again. PCOS CANNOT BE CURED. It can be mainpulated, but never cured. It is INCURABLE. Losing weight is your best defense against PCOS. But you will always have it. WLS will NOT cure it either. Please, please please see a ENDOCRINOLOGIST for your PCOS (PCOS is a ENDOCRINE DISORDER!) Gyn's are not endocrine specialists!!!! Would you see a Chevy dealer to buy a Ford? I don't think so.... http://www.inciid.org/
