Sheesh, just fire the guy. Doctors are a dime a dozen...find a good one that cares about YOU, not the insurance companies. Don't forget, doctors work for you, you are the employer, they are your employees...THEY'RE NOT GODS!!!!!

I agree, look for another PCP and quickly! I had one that was so awful, he told me I had the fat gene and had to live with it! Needless to say, I found a new in a matter of weeks. I have medicaid as well and my new PCP has never mentioned cost. Vi

Are there any forms that the Surgeon's office can fax to your PCP with a cover note of some sort? Perhaps as a professional courtesy, if nothing else, they will be completed and returned. Your weight history, attempts at weight loss, any notes made concerning comments made about your weight, what medical problems or diseases you have... Any chance there is another PCP that has weight data on you? Can you get a letter from your Gynecologist? Show it to your PCP, and send a copy to your Surgeon? Have you told the Surgeons'staff that you may have a reluctant PCP? Maybe they will offer some suggestions. Does the letter of Medical Nessessity absolutely have to be written by your PCP? Or do you just need a referral letter? My Surgeon drafted the letter of Medical Nessessity, based on the information provided to him. I hope you don't give up. I agree with the other posters about the possibility of you needing another PCP, yet I know it won't be easy on Medicaid. On the bright side, Congradulations on the LPN triumph!!

Go in the back door honey! Call a WLS surgeon and ask for the name of a WLS friendly PCP in your area. Then call that PCP (and preferably switch to that PCP if they are reputable rather than staying with the current jerk) and have an exam and request a referral for WLS. If expense is the issue here it seems it should be considered that if you lose a substantial amount of weight your overall health will be greatly improved thereby saving Medicaid a ton. Best wishes to you and don't give up! You're worth it!

OK, I read your comments about your PCP and wanted to scream! This doctor is an idiot. NO question about it. In fact, not only is he an idiot, what he is doing is ILLEGAL. He is denying you apropriate medial treatment because of his personal agenda. I cant even believe he is stupid enough to actually state that he's not doing a test because he feels it will cost medicaid too much money. Honey, you could sue him just for that. His concern should not be how much medicaid is going to have to pay. His ONLY concern should be finding out what's wrong with you and fixing it. You need to dump this guy NOW. Get a referral from you surgeon to a WLS friendly PCP. If you cant find one, then your only other option is to get tough with this guy and stick up for your rights as a patient.

A lot of doctors seem to forget that they are service providers, not gods. You are the customer and if you're not getting service, take your business elsewhere. You'll be much better off for it.

The WLS office called back and ask if I thought my GYN would write me a letter of medical necessity. I'm very positive that he would do it for me so everyone please cross your fingers and keep me in your prayers. THANKS
