Question:
Why does water make my stomach burn and hurt?

I can drink other liquids such as tea, coffee (in moderation), sugar free popcicles, etc with no burning sensation or pressure. When I drink water though (and yes, I sip it slowly) I feel pressure and a painful burning sensation in my stomach. I feel queazy and have to burp to relieve the pressure. It then takes a few moments before I feel 'normal' again. Anyone else have this problem or suggestions?    — TanaMom2JAM (posted on November 6, 2002)

I havent had surgery yet, but when I visit my sister, she has a water softener/ w an airerator on the faucets, and I feel the same way and and have to burp and get the queesy feeling. When you make tea, you stir out the air, coffee is brewed and Im guessing you buy the sf popcicles. You didnt refer if it was bottled water or tap that hurt you, or both. But here at home we have hard city water/ with no airerator on mine and water doesn't bother me here. Just a thought :0)

I also have the exact same problem. Water only and temp. doesn't matter. It can't be the speed I drink it because I drink tea the same way and it is fine. I am drinking bottled water but have just started adding lemon and a small amount of Splenda and don't seem to get that pain.

I'm not post-op yet, but every time I make a big glass of water, I put a big splash of Herbalife Herbal Aloe concentrate in it. Tastes slightly lemony, and is supposed to aid and soothe digestion. I have tummy trouble and this seems to help, but I don't have the trouble you do. You can get Aloe Vera Juice at a health food store, too, but I don't know how it would differ from the Herbalife...
