Question:
I can't seem to get my head and body in sync ?
I am post op almost 7 months, lap rny 3/25/02, I'm almost afraid to eat, for fear of gaining or just not losing. I have lost 125 pounds and I'm satisfied with that but, have 25 more pounds to lose. I think I'm eating the right things, but some days I eat next to nothing, because I'm afraid. my new body is thinner, but my head tells me I am still this huge person. Help !!! I dont know how to get the head and body in sync. I just want to feel normal. — zeeanna35 (posted on October 25, 2002)

I still struggle with this issue. I went through counseling for months on
this issue. I am at goal and have been for months. My problem is that I eat
way too much and then worry about gaining. I do gain! When I gain five
pounds, then I diet back down to my goal. But, I still think & yo-yo
like a compulsive overeater :-( Don't be afraid to eat. Be afraid to eat
unhealthy! Stick to high protein, low carbs. By the time you drink your
liquids, etc. that should do it. Add in a few low starch veggies after your
protein. My protein choices usually consists of fish, chicken, a little
beef. Fresh salad, dressing on the side. I still avoid while flour, sugar,
processed foods, pizza's pastas breads, sodas, etc...except, when I cheat
once in awhile.

Eating too little can be just as bad as eating too much. As far as getting
your head in sync, I think that just takes time. But you do need to stop
viewing food as "the enemy." Your body NEEDS fuel. Make sure you
are giving it what it needs to stay healthy and that last 25 pounds will
come off. If you stick to the "program" (protein 1st, cut out
white carbs, take your supplements, drink lots of water, etc.) you will not
gain weight and your body will be much healthier than if you starve
yourself.

Sara, I understand how you feel. I too still "see" me as a fat
chick even though daily I am told by co-workers and family how good I look.
My head just isn't there yet. I have been told this is normal and it will
go away. I also struggle with eating, not because I don't want to, because
I am never hungry and I forget. I am 5+ months post op, open RNY, -92 lbs.
Thank goodness I have people to remind me to eat ( sounds weird huh) Best
to you!
