Question:
my policy states under exclusions weight loss services,but..
when you call them they give you the low down. They will not cover MO or any complications you have from Mo. I was told by a freind that it has to be in writting to be legal. is this true? It is in writting somewhere I am sure but not in my policy. You have to call to get the whole exclusion. is this legal? Thanks Angie — Angie H. (posted on September 21, 2002)

Yes it could be true....lots of insurance companies don't pay for anykind
of weight loss services, including WLS. Now that it is becoming more
popular, more insurance companies are droping covering WLS. Blue Cross
Blue Shield of Florida will no longer cover the surgery after 01/01/2003
unless the employer group buys a rider to cover WLS. I feel really lucky
that I had my WLS this year while it was still covered. I hate it for
other people.
