Question:
I am on 3 differant meds

I was told from one of my doctors i need to stay on all my meds while in the hospital and when i get home but i am not sure if i will be able to take them without them making me sick. Has anyone else came accross this problem or should i just wait and see what they think after surgery! One of the pills is for anxiety one for depression and the other is for migraines. Jan, One of the biggest mistakes I made was to go off of my Zoloft and Clarinex while in the hospital. I got so depressed, and my allergies took weeks to get back under control. I would just play it by ear and try to take them. (IF your SURGEON) says its okay. Space them out (if you can) and if one makes you sick, you can always try a few days later. I don't think you'll have any probs. I was swallowing Tylenol at 4 days post op in the hospital with no stomach upset. You may want to try them with jello if you're allowed to have it.

It is important to stay on your meds. Take one of each of your meds and put them in water. This is to see how well they disolve. If after a couple of minutes they haven't disolved, then you can ask your doctor for an alternative medicine. If they stay whole then they will pass without being of any benifit. There are also liquid medicines that you can take instead. Just ask your pharmacist.

hi. I am on 6 different medications and I am only 22 years old!! Imagine what will happen when I turn 80? LOL I had my surgery 2 months ago and I thought exactly what you did. In the hospital though, I was surprised to see that the nurse came in and brought me my pills in a cup and just expected me to take them one day after surgery. I did, and felt fine. Ofcourse, i also have felt fine from eating everything i tried, i am very lucky, i have a strong stomach. But I would definately not skip the pills, mine were mostly for migraines and one for depression as well, and w/o them it could've made my recovery worse. You definately don't want your migraine during surgery, i know how bad those can be. Goodluck to you, you will be fine!! If you have any questions or want to talk, e-mail me! :) ([email protected])

My surgeon required that I crush all pills for the first 2 months. After barfing up the awful taste of the pills (applesauce, yogurt couldn't disguise the awful taste), I finally asked for liquid alternatives. Much better!! When I had to take an antibiotic for an infection, I asked my PCP for injections instead.
