Question:
When Do You See The Results?

I am post-op 1 week. I made the mistake and got on the scale. First, I thought it was a big joke, then I had my friend weigh me. In just one week it stated that I lost 22 pounds. I have so much swelling, I am not sure where it went.    — Marcia J. (posted on July 21, 2002)

It is very common to show a large weight lose in your first couple of weeks or even your first week. The swelling will go away soon and you will begin to notice your clothing getting looser and looser every day. It is a great feeling. You are in for one great ride girl! You will lose the most weight at the fastest rate in your first 4 months post-op. Eveyone loses at a different pace, so don't compare yourself to others who have lost faster. Just stay the course, follow your doctors directions and you will get to your goal. I am 8 months post-op, open RNY, and I am amazed at the changes I have gone thru in the last 8 months. Not only have I lost lots of weight, more then I ever dreamed of in fact, but I now shop in the regular misses departments and the choices are so much nicer. I feel energetic, my health is greatly improved and I like what I see when I look in a mirror. All of these things and more are coming your way, congratulations!

It took about two weeks for all of the bloating to go down with me. By four weeks other people were commenting. I am now 10 weeks post op and down 63 pounds. a size 22/24 to a 14. Most people now tell me I look like a different person.

I am 8 weeks post-op and am beginning to really see the results of weight loss. At the first, most of it was water retention and swelling (natural from the surgery) that was lost quickly. Now, the actual fat is coming off! Most people were able to start telling primarily in my face and neck area around 3-4 weeks post-op. It has just been in the last week that you can tell more all over my body. I am wearing size 16 pants today for the first time in about 17 years! I know the pounds are coming off, but still sometimes struggle with the face looking back at me in the mirror. I still see the old, heavy and fat Sue. Must be the mind games. Hang in there. I bet you will start seeing real results in the next couple of weeks - i.e. loose clothing, neck/face slimming down, etc. Congrats to you!

I didn't weigh til I was 12 days post-op. I could look in the mirror though and know that I had lost. My face was noticibly thinner even that early. But I was stunned when I got on those scales and had lost 30 pounds. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I could lose 30 pounds in 12 days. I am now almost 8 months post-op and as of June 8 (6 months,1 week post) I have lost 120 pounds. I only weigh at my doctor's office or at the support group meetings so I have no idea how much I have lost now. I do know that it has slowed down some, but it had to - I will probably weigh sometime this week or next (depending on if I have to go in to have my hernia checked). Whatever it is, I know I'll be happy.
