Question:
Has anyone had just the lap band procedure and has it worked for you?

I am looking into the lap band procedure as it is less invasive, but I hear it is much slower. I guess it doesn't matter how long it takes to lose, but i would like to hear if others have found it effective.    — Jennifer W. (posted on May 21, 2002)

Didn't this already come up in the past week? Regardless, the previous poster's link is comparing DS and RNY to VBG (vertical banded gastroplasty), not AGB (adjustable gastric banding, also known as lap-band). As far as I know, they are *not* the same thing. Jennifer Secrist is one person on this site who had AGB, and you can find more people at bandsters.com.

Lap Band...Not a good choice and here is why. 8/16/01 my Dad and I both went in for WLS he had the Lap band and I Lap RNY....The next day my dad had it removed from excruciating pain and could not pass water thru...Needless to say 5 weeks ago my Dad now went in for the Lap RNY as well and is doing wonderful lost 37# so far...So save yourself the greif and go for the Lap RNY...I have lost 102# 20 more till goal...Good Luck! One band experience with a band and all lap bands are terrible? Check out the death statistics on the band and that of the bigger surgeries, that is quite a wake up call. The bigger surgeries will have you losing quicker, but there are significantly more risks. Only you know what is right for you, so I would say research research research. Check out the bandster groups on Yahoo for more advice and info on the band. I was banded two months ago, have lost 30 lbs. and feel great, no problems at all. Good luck to you
