Question:
Does a CT Scan of the lungs show any existing blood clots in the lungs?
Also, why would this test be done post operatively? — Hackett (posted on March 29, 2002)

A CT scan may show existing blood clots. However blood clots in the lung
can be fatal. They are very painful and require hospitalization. I am an
EMT a seen this a few times in elderly patients. The symptoms of a blood
clot are difficulty breathing, and sharp pain in chest area. I wouldn't be
too concerned about it unless you've had this before. As always, check
with your doctor. Also to avoid blood clots, exercise, it improves
circulation. Walking is the best. Good Luck!!!
